    Couples Counseling

With Dr. Sue Johnson, the developer of EFT in 2016

My work with couples is informed by EFT- Emotionally Focused Therapy, an experiential and emotion-focused, attachment-based approach which focuses on getting to the heart of relational conflict. EFT can move couples from distress to deeper and more vulnerable and intimate connection by identifying and changing negative patterns of communication and by fulfilling underlying attachment longings and needs, creating stronger bonds together.

I have received advanced training and ongoing consultation in EFT and have been successful in addressing relationship conflict and strengthening partner bonds. EFT is considered to be the “gold standard” of couples therapy with the best outcome research of any model of couples therapy to-date. This approach gets to the heart of disconnection, supporting couples in breaking free from negative cycles and moving into more secure attachment: the deep knowing and experience that your partner cares about you, understands and accepts you, and is there for you when you need them.

You can learn more about EFT at the site of the International Center for Excellence in EFT (https://iceeft.com). In addition I also have been trained in Gottman Method Couples Therapy.

I am open to working with couples, families and all kinds of relationship systems, providing a safe and empathic space to be heard, held and seen. I work well with LGBTQ+ couples and relationships that are consensually non-monogamous, as well as with couples coping with complex cultural issues and differences.
